Mike McGarrity obtained his BA in Economics with a minor in Philosophy from CUA, his law degree magna cum laude from CUA's Columbus School of Law and post graduate certificates from UVA's Darden School of Business and Northwestern. He attended Harvard Kennedy School's Senior Executives in National Security program. With 28 years of prior public service, Mike served at the DOE, DOJ, FBI and was an Assistant District Attorney in the New York County District's Attorney's Office.
Mike spent the last 23 years of his public service with the FBI where he led operations and intelligence teams at all levels to protect the American people. Mike served as the FBI Assistant Director of Counterterrorism with daily oversight of all counterterrorism operations in the FBI's 56 field offices and almost 80 overseas offices. He also served as the Acting Executive Assistant Director for National Security overseeing the FBI's counterintelligence, counterterrorism and weapons of mass destruction programs. During his FBI career Mike served as a special agent in both the NY and Washington D.C. Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs), Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office, senior agent assigned to the CIA's Counterterrorism Center, FBI Deputy On-Scene Commander embedded with DOD's Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in Afghanistan, Director of Counterterrorism, White House National Security Council (NSC), and as a FBI Legal Attache in Europe. Mike was commissioned by President Obama as the first Hostage Recovery Coordinator where he stood up and led an interagency hostage recovery team with members from the FBI, State Department, DOD Special Operations and other US intelligence agencies. In his various roles, Mike has met regularly with Congressional leaders, testified in front of Congress on national security matters, and routeinly met with cabinet members and foreign law enforcement and intelligence leaders. Mike is a certified intelligence officer, recipient of the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award, CIA Counterterrorism Center Achievement Award, Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement National Award and the Catholic University School of Law Alumni Award for Leadership and Academic Excellence.
Mike is currently Vice President of Security for Capital One. He serves on Governor Youngkin's Virginia Resilience and Security Advisory Panel, Archdiocese of Newark Review Board, Atlantic Council Counterterrorism Working Group, International Association of Chiefs of Police Committee on Terrorism, American Bankers Association Security Committee, Vice Chair of the NYPD SHIELD Physical Security Executive Advisory Council for Financial Institutions and he is on the Board of Directors for ScanTech IBS.
